SCapiz

Stephen Phillip Capiz

August 12 – September 18, 2010

Opening Reception: Thursday, August 12, 2010 – 6:00 to 9:00 pm

Burnsville Performing Arts Center is proud to present its first solo artist exhibit featuring the artwork of contemporary artist Stephen Capiz. Capiz grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, and now works out of Minneapolis in the Northrup King Building. The exhibit features a selection of abstract and semi-abstract landscape pieces from Capiz’s diverse body of work. His work has continued to evolve over four decades, during which he has immersed himself in various art forms. “It’s all about art for me,” explains Capiz. The various people, travels, and stories Capiz has encountered in his life serve as his inspiration. His paintings, large and small, are chronicles of his life, where he has been and who he is today.  Capiz’s abstract works encourage viewers to escape and create their own interpretations. His semi-abstract landscape pieces evoke dreamlike places that feel familiar and comforting. All of Capiz’s work is full of energy, sometimes soothing, sometimes chaotic, and always intriguing.

Capiz’s paintings can be found in many corporate and private collections in the United States (including Hilton and Westin Hotels and Northwestern College), as well as across the globe in Iceland, Japan, Canada, Spain, Argentina and Mexico (including the private collections of the former President of Mexico, Vicente Fox).

The free and public opening reception for the Stephen Capiz exhibit will take place at the Burnsville Performing Art Center’s art gallery on Thursday, August 12, from 6:00 – 9:00 PM. Meet the artist, mingle with the fun crowd, and sample complimentary appetizers from Mediterranean Cruise Café as well as complimentary wine from the local Crofut Family Winery and Vineyard.
